Calicut Paragon- Al Nahda- Dubai

Calicut paragon is a place I do not prefer much due to the hustle n bustle not to mention because they are mostly into non-vegetarian food(me being a veggie). But this time we decided to visit Calicut paragon being a friends birthday(non veggie friend) .

When you enter into the shop you are greeted with the wonderful fragrance of FISH! Yes, fish indeed. Alright I should not complain much as it is after all a place that serves non vegetarian esp from Malabar which places much importance on their fish dishes..

We occupied a seat in the farthest corner of the restaurant to avoid the smell and voila the barrage of flies comes attacking although there was no food yet on the table! A small request to the management please install those fly catching machines (which glow blue light) to reduce those damn flies!

Started off with the main course.. Veg fried rice and Cauliflower Manchurian.. of course veg dishes are not their strong point, the friend rice being bland and the Cauliflower Manchurian was just ok-ok.

The rest of the gang ordered Fish meals.. Chicken biryani, Tangy fish mango curry and Meen pollichathu, which is fish fried with masalas wrapped in a banana leaf..

Previously we had the cheese stuffed mushroom which was good but quantity less :(

Service is good but of course takes time during weekends..

Ya Kun Kaya Toast

Alright this place is new to Dubai and this is their first branch.. We got enticed to try it out because of their 1+1 offer :D We tried out the Potato curry sandwich and chicken egg sandwich.. along with hot coffee and lemon ice tea..
The ice tea really has the flavor of tea unlike the ready made ones we get to buy which is just dissolved sugar :-/

Drinks

The potato curry filling was a bit salty for my liking but the waiters specify that's how the masala powder is sent from Singapore :O all their basic ingredients are imported from Singapore..

Potato curry sandwich

The service was nice and attentive.. they even gave us Kaya balls to try... and tat was delicious..

Kaya basically is made of coconut, egg, pandan leaves and sugar.. (well that's what the waiter told me the recipe was although its different on the internet). The waiter gave me some Jam for tasting OH GOD it was so tasty!

They even have outdoor seating facility but being close to a Lebanese restaurant there the Hookah smoke is unbearable.. :(

Lovely place all in all.. worth a visit for those sandwiches :)

Kailash Parbat

I have been craving to visit Kailash Parbat ever since I read a good review about it somewhere( don't remember where). The place is easy to find in Karama. The interiors are done tastefully, the wallpaper is beautiful :D

Now lets come down to the food :D The place definitely lived upto my high expectations. For starters we ordered pani puri and Mushroom tikka, the pani of the pani puri was nice and spicy and the mushroom tikkas were enjoyable.

Then came the Dal Pakwan(A Sindhi dish of flavored puries known as Pakwan served with spicy dal topped with chutney), the pakwan was delectable and could be had on its own :D

Dal Pakwan
I ordered the Mini thali which comes with 2 sabjis(vegetable based curry), dal, raita, chapatthis, 1 sweet. The sabjis were just delightful but the best part was for sure the DAL. OMG the dal was just melt-in-your-mouth perfect!

Next the Paneer biryani and Aloo palak both were just simple and awesome.. To follow up with schezwan fried rice again exquisite.

The best part of the whole meal was the motichoor ladoo, all of us ordered 1 more since just 1 could not do justice.

They also have a separate sweets counter along with the chat counter.

Captivating place and I will make sure to visit again and again :D

Kcal Healthy Fast Foods

Promising meals below 300 calories I just had to try out this place being the always striving to eat healthy freak :D I ordered the Veggie vok which is eggplant, zucchini, onions and mushroom in tomato sauce, along with the veggie burger and chicken burger..

Dubai Mall KCal

Each of these dishes comes with a choice of side dish (either pasta, green salad, white rice or brown rice) . The veggie vok was simple but delicious.. the flavor of each veggie could be tasted. This pairs well with the brown rice..

Yummyness :D

Veggie vok and brown rice

I had a bite from the veggie burger and was a bit disappointed :( it tasted totally like Turmeric :-/ No flavor of the veggies of cheese :-/ Not too sure if that's how its supposed to be.. But the side side which we ordered with the veggie burger was pasta which was delicious!

The winner of the whole meal was definitely the Healthy Berry Shake :D smooth and so very berry!

The quantities are a bit toward the smaller side but worth a try for the health freaks :)

Chinese Village Restaurant- Dubai Marina

Walking around in Dubai Marina does build up an appetite and with my craving for Chinese we decided to try Chinese Village for the first time.. They served shrimp crackers, Kimchi and salad made of pickled cucumber and carrots.. For starters we got the veg Dimsum and it was just melt-in-your-mouth wonderful paired with the chilli sauce which was not too spicy.
We ordered the bamboo rice and green Thai curry.. The bamboo rice is cooked in a shoot of bamboo and was DELICIOUS! The stock used was fragrant and just perfect.. Good amount of quantity too(good for 2) and we were stuffed..The Thai green curry was not too spicy and just right..
The waiter who served us was helpful and explained the dishes well..
Only thing I dislike is the garish interiors and low light with red colored light fittings all over which make the place looks kinda cheap-ish..
Those who want some shisha well they have that too :D and Tom and Jerry cartoons non-stop :D
Wouldn't mind visiting once again to try the Indian food as well ;)

Kamat vegetarian restaurant- AL Qusais

Kamat is an excellent choice for veggie foodies. You can spend some time doodling on the paper when waiting for your meal :D

My staple there would be the Thali or meals and it never fails to disappoint :D The Thali comes with either chapathis or pooris(your choice) along with 2 sabjis(veggies), chana(chickpeas curry), dal(lentils), sambar, rasam, yogurt and gulab jamun(sweet).

We also ordered cauliflowr manchurian along with schezwan noodles. The Noodles were delicious and just enough of spice!

Next came the Mushroom  biryani which was quite good too paired with the boondi raita.

Overall a lovely meal and not a pricey affair either with good service :D

Dosa Plaza- Karama

Previous experience to their branch in AL Qusais being at the back of mind and not experiencing really good service I had some skepticism about visiting their Karama branch as well.. BUT I'm glad I did :D the dosas were delicious! Of course I couldn't try out ALL the varieties in one go :D they promise 104 varieties of dosa :D but I promise a visit in the near future to try more varieties.. we had the Garlic dosa and Pran dosa(basically masala dosa with a coriander paste)..

accompanied with 2 types of chutney and sambar.. the waiter gave us free vada :D and kesari too...

Sukh Sagar- AL Qusais

A nice place to catch up on some veggie north Indian food at Qusais.. It's easy to find being on the main road... we ordered Panner tikka for starters and it was soft and delicious paired with the mint chutney.. free salad came next :P Next came Naan(Bread), Makai mushroom masala(corn and mushroom masala) and Dum aloo kashmiri.. The Corn and mushroom masala was nice and perfect with the bread.. but the Dum aloo well I expected it to be spicy but it was not.. Instead the Dum aloo was kinda sweet :-/ not sure if that's how it's supposed to be.. next came the Sitaphal juice(custard apple) juice and custard apple ice cream :D oh yessssssssssssss now that was yummy!!! overall a satisfying meal which wont exceed your budget :)
